New York City Unearthed
by Class 5 &4-3 from the JHS School for the Deaf
Towards the end of our school year we ent on a wonderful trip. We left our school and rode on a bus to Battery Park, near the tip of Manhattan island. Then we waled to 17 State Street to a usum called New York City Unearthed.
This is a special museum about New York City archaeology. Archaeology tells us about past history by studying things found under the ground. People dig up many interesting things from the past. We can learn how people lived long ago by looking at things they used.
Janet Blitt, who works there, helped us learn many new things. We watched archaeologists working in a lab. They were using a big microscope to look at a very old blue and white plate. We were able to see exactly what they saw under the microscope on a large screen.
"I liked the glass wall - the excavation wall." - Mayra
"We were able to hold 200 year old cannonballs. I was surprised how heavy they were." - Cynthia
"We loved the elevator ride. It was exciting and we watched the man tell us about what is under the city streets." - Merlyn & Tanya
"I liked looking at the display cases and trying to find things." - Jason
