CARDIAC III
BY TIMOTHY J. RECKART
The teacher slammed the ruler into its hand. "Cardiac III, pay attention!" it yelled in a high metallic voice. "The next time I see you talking to Yookear IV, I'll drain five volts from you!" Then it turned and went on talking about the physical chemistry of Gaxizio Plant cells.
Who stuck me in this stupid school with this stupid teacher who drones on every day about science? Cardiac thought. I'd rather be Outside than hear this. Cardiac was a robot. A robot/android of human relation, to be exact. He was made on Titan, one of the moons of Saturn, in the solar system Juno. He was then transported to mOKDArioid 2, a planet in the solar system piKTon 6. There he was now, hearing the meaningless explanations of science that were being said by his teacher.
Cardiac started quietly buzzing one of his favorite tunes. The teacher turned its head. "Cardiac III! Walk to the principal's office! And to make sure you don't try anything stupid, I'll escort you there!" the teacher screamed. It walked out with Cardiac next to it. Once the teacher left the room, Cardiac could hear his classmates yelling and screaming and playing and throwing spitballs.
I wonder what it's like Outside... he thought. Maybe that's where the frokmandhiks live. They'd tear me apart if I took a step Outside. Maybe that's where the Ruler lives. I've heard he's really nice.
The teacher and Cardiac walked into the principal's office. "Sit down, Cardiac," it said. Then it started talking about how to behave and all that stuff. Just when Cardiac was about to fall asleep, a frokmandhik jumped through the fiberglass window. Frokmandhiks have furry, clawed arms and legs with a turtle shell on their backs. They are very tall and they have snake heads. This one was holding a matter detonator. Cardiac's eyes turned red in surprise. He jumped through a window. He fell fifty feet then hit the ground. A few seconds later, the school blew up.
